2008 Q&A Session With Hasbro's Star Wars Brand Team Round 11

By Jay Cochran on 2008-06-20 in Action Figures

Hasbro's Star Wars brand team has agreed to answer three questions from Jedi Insider fans every other week. Here are this week's questions and answers. This is the eleventh round for 2008.

JI: Rumors are that a Death Star playset is in the works. Can you confirm this and any details you could share for us on it?

Hasbro: We can confirm that no Death Star playset is in any stage of development, and nothing has progressed beyond some "what if" discussions and the few models that we created back in 2005. We will not be doing this, at least in the next several years (we still don't know what live action could bring so we won't say never). While some might look at the Millenium Falcon as a ray of hope that we could bring out a Death Star someday, the tooling on a playset is much, much more onerous and not a realistic possibility unless there is current entertainment support to engage kids in the set.

JI: Will Hasbro have a presence at Celebration Japan this year? Any exclusives planned for this show?

Hasbro: The Hasbro team will not have a presence at Celebration Japan this year as it Falls the week before Comic-Con International and that is where we are concentrating our efforts. However, TakaraTomy, who distributes our line in Japan, will have a presence and will be showcasing some highlights from the Fall line. TT will be selling for the first time Disturbance in the Force, our HasbroToyShop.com Comic-Con International exclusive, but otherwise will not have any other Hasbro exclusives at the show. TT has let us know they will have one cool exclusive of their own -- a clear R2-D2 as the latest addition to the 3-3/4" scale Micro Droid line. We will not be distributing this one here in the U.S., although StarWarsShop.com might. Details of an early preview can be found at https://www.fantofan.jp/news/event/toyshow2008/report.htm

JI: With all the clone figures Hasbro has made over the years, is there any chance of doing some type of checklist poster showing them all off?

Hasbro: That is an interesting idea and would certainly look great. We'll park that one on the back burner as something cool to do - maybe as a virtual poster for the website. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you would like to submit a question for Hasbro to answer, then head over to the new JediInsider Forums and post it. We might select it as a question to be asked in a future Q&A. We will be sending in the next batch of question on June 27.
