Sideshow Toy has updated with another round of Questions & Answers about things from Ace Ventura to Blade Runner and Star Wars.....
Question: I’ve been following the Six Gun Legends series with much interest. Any plans to do Yul Brynner as Chris Adams from The Magnificent Seven — or even better — as the robot Gunslinger from Westworld? Yul was the original Terminator. (Sorry, Arnold.)
Yul was a great. While we do have plans to continue Six Gun Legends, we’re currently more interested in capturing historical subjects than fictional or film-based characters.
Question: I am a BIG fan of your products & currently have 12 Premium Formats & 5 Dioramas in my collection. Unfortunately as I live in Europe - it is not economic for me to purchase direct form Sideshow due to shipping/customs charges, which is why I buy most of my stuff from a nearby retailer ie: Forbidden Planet, Play.com etc. I would LOVE to see a Premium Format of Hannibal Lector (with a likeness of Anthony Hopkins) in that iconic orange jumpsuit wearing the mask! I wonder if this would be possible or if you could post a poll on your website to strike up interest perhaps - I have spoken to MANY collectors in the forums etc. & they all agreed - Hannibal Lector is the next big thing for Sideshow:)
Wow, that’s quite a collection! Sideshow has considered Hannibal Lector on several occasions, and he is a current candidate for production as a Premium Format. Thanks for sharing your interest with us!
Question: I’ve been an Ace Ventura Pet Detective fan since I was a kid, any plans on capturing this hilarious character in Premium Format?
No plans at this time.
Question:Are there any plans to produce a Clint Eastwood premium format figure from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly movie??
We would love to, but Clint’s likeness rights are very, very difficult to obtain. This is certainly one of our long-term grail projects.
Question: A few years back, when you developed the Hobbit body, there was some talk of also using it for other lines that had shorter characters. I realize that the LOTR line is now defunct (sniff), but are there still plans to utilize that smaller body for, say … Short Round, Jawas, Ugnauts, etc.?
Absolutely, yes. The “hobbit body” will make a triumphant return in 2010 or 2011.
Question: Does Sideshow have any plans on developing any BLADE RUNNER statues & prop replicas?
Merchandising rights for Blade Runner have frustrated Sideshow and many other companies for years. Ownership and rights issues surrounding the film itself have prevented companies like Sideshow from obtaining licensing rights for film based products, despite our best efforts. Maybe someday…
Question: Has Sideshow ever thought of doing any 1/6 figures or a Premium Format figure from the movie Dune? A PF figure of Paul Atreides in his Freman Stillsuit or maybe a Dio of a Worm from the planet Dune. There would be all types of figures and Dios that could be made from the license!
Dune is certainly a classic and has been discussed on at least one occasion. It’s not currently a very likely candidate, but perhaps if Dune were to see some kind of revival or reboot, we’d look at it again.
Question: I just love what you are doing, and I’m very eager to get some answers! Please tell me when will we see more creatures released from the movie AVATAR? Is there a possibility for another Legacy FX contribution?
Sideshow is actively developing Premium Format figures based on main characters from Avatar, and there is a distinct possibility that Sideshow and Legacy will bring other characters or creatures to life in other formats in the future.
Question: I have a question about a line of large format (7″ approx) Star Wars figures that Hasbro canceled. It was called Unleashed. They were a nice affordable way to have larger versions of Star Wars characters fixed in action poses. They stopped it after they had just barely scratched the surface of all the Clone variations, Imperial troops, and Jedi. They even missed some main characters. Would Sideshow consider starting a 7″-8″ line similar to Unleashed? It would be an affordable alternative to collectors like me who cannot justify the price of the large format figures that you do now. Thanks!
Sideshow has no plans to produce smaller plastic figures in the same vein as the Hasbro Unleashed line, but we were fans of the product line too.
Question: It has been around two years since the 1/6 Jabba figure was released and the Star Wars line is long overdue for a new creature to expand the collection. Is there any possibility of seeing a 1/6 scale patrol Dewback to go with the amazingly detailed Sandtroopers?
We’ve discussed the Dewback on several occasions, especially with the success of the Sandtrooper figures. While nothing is concrete at this time, it is still an active topic.
Question: I am a Star Wars 12″ Sideshow nut! I have all of them, but I am dying to get some of the bounty hunters…Where is the love?
The love also comes with a healthy respect for the complexity of the Bounty Hunter designs, which means that we’ve been slowly chipping away at them over the past 12 months, and we’re getting ready to kick into high gear on some serious development efforts. There is much, much love.
Question: Will there be a large variety of Clone Troopers, Pilots and Commanders from the Clone Wars series?
Yes, the Clone Wars series has provided some fantastic trooper types and personalities, and we do intend to bring a fair variety of them to life in 1:6 scale.
Question: Please, please, please, it’s just a quick question: Will you release Revenge of the Sith Clonetroopers in their blank/generic/full white armor?
Yes, at some point we will release an all-white ROTS Clone.
Question: I love your Star Wars Premium Format…I was wondering if you have any plan for Empire Strike Back soon? It’s almost the 30th anniversary…I would love to see a Snowtrooper…so many possibilities…with cloth skirt, or with the Hoth firing cannon. Also, how about a new Star Wars diorama - Han and Greedo in Mos Eisley Cantina…also…is Hammerhead ever a possibility?
The Snowtrooper is definitely getting some due recognition very soon, although we’re currently developing them in a scale smaller that 1:4. Yes, Hammerhead is going to happen, and we think you’ll like what we have planned for the Cantina in general.
Question: Have the environment sets lived up to your expectations in regards to sales, so much so that you will continue to develop them for the Star Wars line? I think they are great and don’t mind shelling out the price (FLEXPay is great), and I look forward to Thrawn’s Chair and any future announcements!
Absolutely, yes, we are very pleased by the reaction to the various environments that have been offered for Star Wars, GI Joe, and Indiana Jones, and do plan to offer more (and even bigger) such environments in the future.
