Reader Review: Elite Corps Clone Trooper by Whitewolf

The parade of repaints continues...

The long-awaited Elite Corps Clone Trooper has been somewhat of a subject of debate among a few of us here at TNI. When the first photos of this wave hit the internet, some were convinced that Hasbro had done a completely new and movie-accurate sculpt of this Trooper, pointing out that the Clone Wars-era armor has significant differences from the future Scout Trooper version, especially where the faceplate and ammo belts are concerned. But alas poor souls, this IS Hasbro we're talking about here...

Why pay to have a brand new movie-accurate sculpt when you can just slap an existing figure with a new paint job, a la the Rainbow-O-Clone Troopers? To hear Hasbro's people tell it, making a new sculpt practically bankrupts the entire company. Yep, you guessed it...this is nothing more than the VTSC Biker Scout with a Kashyyyk camo paint scheme. Nothing at all was changed for the production of this figure.

One of the things that will upset some collectors is the small bit of false advertising that this figure carries with it. The cardbacks of all Wave 9 figures clearly shows this figure sporting the same sniper/blaster rifle that was included with the Evolutions Clone Trooper. However, once I inspected the list of accessories that come with the Elite Trooper, I found that the rifle is NOT included. Granted, most army builders have entire arsenals of these rifles, so simply outfitting the figure with one won't be a big deal. But to the casual collector, this may be somewhat of a turn-off.

The Elite Corps Clone Trooper includes:

*Biker Scout Holdout Blaster
*DC-5 Blaster Pistol

As I've said, this wave is largely just repaints or reissues, and one that will probably be received with mixed results by collectors. Personally, I'm not loving the selection, but I'm also not loathing it either. But many Clone Wars fans have been waiting for this Trooper for quite a while and are happy to get it, whether it truly is accurate or not. So let the army-building begin...
