I had a chance to catch Star Wars in Concert in Portland, OR this week. It is an awesome show that no Star Wars fan should miss. The doors open an hour and a half before the actual show allowing you to view an exhibit of cool videos about the making of the movies as well as actual costumes and replicas from the movie. If that wasn’t enough, the 501st Battalion is on-hand for pictures with the fans.
The show itself is a mixture of music, storytelling and special effects. The music, selected pieces from the soundtracks of all six Star Wars movies, is a mixture of live-orchestra and chorale music conducted by Dirk Brosse. Anthony Daniels, the actor who portrayed C-3PO in each Star Wars film, re-tells the classic tale of Jedi’s and Sith Lords. While the music plays and Anthony narrates, scenes from all six movies play on a big screen behind the orchestra complemented by special effect like overhead lasers and flame spouts bursting out of the front of the stage. I was sitting two rows back and could feel the heat of the flames as the Death Star exploded.
Whether you want a nice night out to listen to some great orchestra music composed by the legendary John Williams, you are a fan of the Star Wars movies, or you are looking for something the entire family can enjoy, then you should really check this out.
