It's Wednesday and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the
Star Wars: The Black Series The Ronin and R5-D56 from
Hasbro. I've been wanting a figure of this character since I saw
Star Wars: Visions the first time, the day it dropped, and
lo and behold, here it is! It comes in a beautiful, premium packaging and even has his
droid companion, complete with multiple tools!
My only wish now is the Power Droid with the teapot!
The
packaging of this set is quite stunning, a beaufiful box, with a matte finish and wrapped with a piece of a
bamboo. It opens from the front to reveal the figures, and nice prints inside. I know I have been spoiled by the
Figura Obscura line from the
Four Horsemen Studios, because I had kinda hoped that the sleeve would '
detach' from the box to become a beautiful
background diorama, but it's all attached to the box, sadly.
Oh well!

The Ronin figure comes with a
lighstaber,
hilt and
gun, while the
droid comes with
11 accessories to attach on him, including a
staff,
rocket thrusters with
effects and
6 droid tools. The
soft goods coat of the
Ronin figure is wired, in a slightly different way that I am used to: the coat itself has a triangle wire, with 2 extra long wired pieces on each side. It's pretty neat and can pose really well. The articulations are
not great (
single elbows, knees...) and I wish it would move a bit better, but it's still better than the
Kotobukiya statue that I nearly ordered a few months before. The
droid is pretty similar to the more recent
R2D2 figure, with a
straw hat and
strings around its '
feet', with all the tools that can be attached to its sides and the top part that pops up.

I love that they are all in black and white, except for the lightsaber and the blue lights of the droid. I've seen rumors that a
colored version will probably be revealed at some point, but I'll probably prefer this one (
unless it comes with the Gonk droid with the teapot, of course!). Fingers crossed that this will kickstart the need for more characters from that universe (
the Sith lady, stormtroopers...or the Gonk droid with the teapot), or from
Star Wars: Visions in general (so far, we only had the
S.H.Figuarts Am and Karre from
Bandai). The set was a bit pricey, but since at first, we believed
it would be exclusive to the Star Wars Celebrations in Tokyo and considering how annoying it would have been to get one if that was the case, in the end, I'm happy to have it!
