Star Wars Celebration V Collecting Panels – Update

Jay Cochran - June 06, 2010
Just a week ago, Celebration announced Gus Lopez would be returning to this summer's Celebration V with a lineup of panels, presentations, and events for the show's collectors. This week, we're proud to reveal the first four of his panels…

Animation Collecting: The Holiday Special to The Clone Wars
From the Star Wars Holiday Special, to the Droids and Ewoks Adventure Hour, to The Clone Wars television series, animation has played a large part in expanding the stories of the Star Wars universe. Join collector Shane Turgeon as he explores the animated history of Star Wars, discusses the differences in traditional and modern animation, and covers the wide variety of animation art available to both the casual and experienced animation collectors of all eras.

Food Collectibles
Food collectibles represent one of the largest, oldest, and most diverse categories of Star Wars treasure hunting. There have been over 10,000 different food-related packages, premiums, and store displays from hundreds of promotions in over one hundred countries. Food collectibles can be challenging to track down due to their short lifespan and national, or even regional, differences. Most fans are familiar with recent promotions from soft drink and fast food companies, but who knew that there were Star Wars promotions for hot dogs, peanut butter, cheese, mustard, fish flakes, and even dog food? Come see examples of obscure food collectibles from all over the world in this fascinating panel presented by Jonathan McElwain.

The Empire Strikes Back in Trading Cards
Cathy Kendrick and Andy Dukes celebrate thirty years of collecting The Empire Strikes Back on cardboard, paper, and stickers. This presentation will explore the many trading card and sticker sets created around this film from 1980 through today. Tips on collecting and enjoying these unique collectibles will also be discussed.

The End of Star Wars Collecting?
Shrunken heads, baseball cards, trolls, stamps and coins, Beanie Babies, Star Wars... There are thousands of collecting hobbies. History has shown that all hobbies follow a predictable evolutionary path ending with their disappearance. The only difference is how quickly that inevitable end arrives. What does the future hold for Star Wars collecting? Is the end near? Or will Star Wars buck the historical trend and last forever? Collectors Martin Thurn, Charlie Marcus, Eliing Haug, Isaac Lew, and Mark Salotti will draw on the wisdom and experience of three generations of Star Wars collectors to offer answers these questions and more.

Update

Partners in Collecting
Join us for the untold story of Star Wars collecting from a partner's point of view! Our panelists Anne Jenkins, Pam Green, Bob Canning, Marjorie Carvalho, and Kim McElwain - all partners of some of the biggest Star Wars collectors in the world - explore the highs and lows of living with a collector and their collection. Learn the secrets of surviving life with a collector, enjoy some of our favorite travel stories, and find out whether the collecting bug is really contagious.

Humorous Star Wars Items
Duncan Jenkins' presentation on Humorous Star Wars Items is back! And with so many new items added to Duncan's updated repertoire, Star Wars fans will both laugh and groan at some of these humorous collectibles released over the years. For many, the concept of a humorous collectible is not readily obvious. But some of the best attention-grabbing collectibles are the ones that make collectors smile, laugh, or think "I can't believe they made that!" From Jabba the Hutt on a Peach Melba Yogurt Cup to six-foot Ewoks On Ice Skates, the Star Wars collectibles universe has had some very funny licensed items. For a look at some of the best Star Wars inspired, humorous collectibles, check out this panel, and don't forget to wear your Boba Fett Underoos.

Star Wars Collectibles Author Panel
Star Wars collectibles books have covered a wide range of material including posters, prototypes, tattoos, action figures, rarities, and price guides. For the first time ever, this panel gathers some of the leading authors of Star Wars collecting books to discuss their work, give a glimpse of what goes into researching and creating a Star Wars collectibles guide, and field questions from the audience. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from some of the best: Shane Turgeon, Anne Neumann, Pete Vilmur, Duncan Jenkins, Gus Lopez, Steve Sansweet, John Kellerman, and Todd DeMartino.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a very special bonus, those who attend the Collecting Panels at Celebration V can look forward to receiving exclusive collectibles dreamed up by Lopez and his team. The Collectors’ Panel give-aways have become one of the hottest “must have” items at recent Celebrations, and this time around it will be no different.

It's Deadpool time again! This one is in my opinion the best DP I've made so far. He was made with 100% recycled parts and no sculpting, whee! He'll be displayed at the SDCC Saturday if I get a spot at the custom panel there. Made from....

Base body is the DCSH Superman Red, Moon Knight head, Batman Movie Master hands, Punisher gun/holster, TMNT movie Leo's backsheathe and swords, witchblade spear for sword handles, Mr Sinister cape straps for ankle cuffs, craftlace for neck cuff, XMC Magneto belt for the bandolier strap, Omega red chest strap for his shoulder strap, Avalanche belt, and unknown belt pouches... whew.

Oh wait, I lied, I sculpted the tiny Deadpool belt-buckle like 2 years ago and had it lying in my bin! You could easily paint it on the head of a thumbtack tho.

very cool!
