Sky Movies Lands 'Star Wars' Franchise

Outsiders - October 12, 2005
Sky Movies has secured the exclusive UK rights to air all six Star Wars films in 2006.

The deal, brokered by film acquisitions head Lisa McDonald, is the first for an international territory.

Each of the movies will air as multistarts through August and September 2006, including Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. The season will be supported by other Star Wars-related programming across the Sky network as a whole.

"Sky is constantly looking for ways of adding real value for our customers through exclusive on-air event programming," said Sophie Turner Laing, deputy MD of Sky Networks. "This deal is a great example of that - no-one else on British television could offer this level of commitment to the greatest movie franchise of them all."
