Star Wars is forever! And Gentle Giant’s 2006 product releases certainly reinforce that fact. At Toy Fair in New York, Gentle Giant showed off new releases in existing lines, as well as early designs on some new lines.
New mini busts include: Qui-Gon Jinn, Deluxe Clone Trooper (Revenge of the Sith version), Chewbacca, Darth Maul, Grievous, and the first character from the Expanded Universe to be immortalized in resin – Mara Jade.
New statues include: Royal Guard, Obi-Wan in Clone Trooper Armor, and a massive 16” tall Rancor (in 7” scale)!
New Bust-Ups were revealed, including a Luke and Han in Stormtrooper Disguise 2-pack, a Bounty Hunter Boxed Set, and Series 7 as one of the most requested themes for Bust-Ups since its inception – the Clone Wars animated style.
Only one new Clone Wars maquette was shown – the fan-designed Roron Corobb –, but one of the shows biggest surprises of the show was the announcement of the new Star Wars Animated style of maquettes. Similar in design to the Clone Wars series but also taking elements from the old Droids cartoon, the looks of these characters were co-designed by Lucasfilm and Gentle Giant Studios.
A brand new category was shown off as well – resin bookends. The first release (for Winter 2006) will be ripped from the Mos Eisley Cantina – Han vs. Greedo. Who Fired First? YOU decide!
