Based on the Urban Legends storyline in Eastman & Lairds Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books from Mirage Studios! Nobody looks really cool. He really plays on the less is more concept.

Thankfully the figures seem to be doing very well.

Are you sure the figures are doing well? Aren't they putting more and more on the Mattel Creations site?

And it also seems they've pivoted away from doing pure MOTU and Masterverse figures to doing these team-up themes (which I think are doing well).

I'm actually a little worried that the He-Man boom is riding on this movie next year and that we may never get a lot of characters in Masterverse form. And the Origins Filmation figures seem to have petered out.

I still hold out hope for a Skeletor movie trooper, Entrapta, and Glimmer. But I'm not that confident any more.

The playset doesnt cost $300...

It clearly costs $300.

You're making a distinction without any difference. Maybe you're joking and I just don't get it. They are charging $300, so that is the cost. It doesn't matter what fraction of that money they apply towards their expenses, production cost, R&D, salaries, overhead or whatever.

I think most of us understand the economics of scale and accept that it costs more because they cannot mass produce it to the same volume as some of the previous large items which have almost all gone on extremely deep clearance. I can understand why retailers would not seem to want more large MOTU items given that history. Thankfully the figures seem to be doing very well.

The playset doesnt cost $300. The money is your contribution towards the total expense of making the items AND whatever the retail price is which is probably in line with the other playsets.

This playset abd the Frightzone were never going to go to retail. I had 3 anonymous sources independently contact me with 3 different memos from 3 different retail giants staging that no MOTU playsets were welcomed in those 3 different outlets. I didnt actually see the memos but they told me what they said and I have no reason to think theyd be pulling a fast one or be working together.
