It's
Wednesday and you know what that means:
ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition figure of
Darth Vader from
Hot Toys. I had been waiting for a
Darth Vader figure from
Hot Toys that would have the unmasked head, in order to have a '
complete' figure, but
Hot Toys went a step further and added a
Force lightning, transparent blue helmet, which made the deal even better! This is the ultimate
Darth Vader figure to me, and I don't see how it can be topped.
For the 40th anniversary of
Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi,
Hot Toys revealed that
Darth Vader figure, in standard and deluxe edition, which I pre-ordered immediately (
back in April 2023). That was over a year and a half ago, and it is here now! It is a beautiful, beautiful figure. Probably the best
Darth Vader figure I own. He is very tall, has tons of electronic features and lights, and comes with
3 head sculpts (normal, force lightning and unmasked),
6 pairs of hands (including the one missing a hand), a beautiful
diorama base,
2 lightsabers and
2 lighsaber effects, a
stand that has 2 extra parts to attach the other head sculpts, so you can display them nicely, along with all the parts to activate the lights and move the eyes (the
Anakin Skywalker head has moving eyes).
The figure comes has a few
cables hanging in its back, under the cape, and it comes with a little box where you can plug all the cables, which a
USB-C port. This is way better than having dozens of batteries in the figure. One of the
lightsabers, and the
transparent blue helmet also have cables hanging from them and can be plugged to the back. The lights on the chest piece are turning on and off, and the
Force lightning helmet are flickering to look like it's being electrocuted.
It's pretty neat!
The
material used for the suit (
pleather?) feels a bit foamy, may hinder articulations a little (or look bad when bent too much), but hopefully will last longer than on previous versions of the figure. The
cape and
tunic have a really nice feel to them. The cables used for the lights are really tiny and fragile and I feel might be the first thing to be broken for many collectors, if they are not super careful. Other than than, it's a
fantastic figure. I have to move my entire
Star Wars display in a Detolf to have this figure as the centerpiece.
Also, taking pictures of an
entirely black figure is extremely frustrating \o/
