Lucasfilm has appointed Dave Filoni, the mastermind behind the Disney+ Star Wars series, as its Chief Creative Officer.
“Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,” Filoni tells Vanity Fair. “In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways.”
In a recent interview, Filoni hinted at the possibility of a second season of Ahsoka, the live-action series featuring Rosario Dawson as the grown-up version of Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Despite his new role, Filoni will continue to serve as EVP, providing his creative input on various projects.
“In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on,” Filoni says. “When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”
Meanwhile, Kathleen Kennedy remains the President of Lucasfilm, overseeing the company's operations. Filoni has been the Executive Producer of several animated and live-action Star Wars series, including The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka. He is also set to direct his first live-action Star Wars movie, which will bring together all the storylines from the Disney+ sci-fi series.
“I’m not telling people what to do,” Filoni says. “But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.” Drawing from his mentorship under Lucas himself, Filoni sees his role as understanding the filmmakers' intentions and providing them with valuable resources.
