Life-sized Tauntaun™ Bust – Numbered Edition

$6,999.00 – $7,999.00

Regal Robot is proud to present our new NUMBERED EDITION life-sized Tauntaun bust from our Custom Character Studio. An authentically crafted 1:1 recreation of the practical lifesize props used in the production of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, this new bust stands a giant 38″ tall and is made to hang on a wall.

Each tauntaun bust is hand-produced by professional FX artists in our New York studio and they require hours of fabrication and hair work. Every element is hand-painted, hand-assembled and crafted with the utmost care. The busts are resin, fiberglass and rigid foam with details that include hand stained translucent resin teeth and tongue and giant-sized three dimensional sculpted eyes, for amazing depth and realism right down to the veins in the sclera.

The horns get special attention and buyers will have their choice of two complete horns (like Han Solo’s tauntaun) or one horn with a broken tip (like Luke Skywalker’s tauntaun). If you choose the Deluxe option, the beast will include hand-fabricated and distressed reins, along with realistic faux snow.

We developed this piece with hands-on examination of several original prop 1:1 tauntaun heads, most particularly the large puppet used in both Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and then again in the palace of Jabba the Hutt in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Further, the face for our bust was originally sculpted side-by-side with a production casting for proper scaling and proportions.

1:1 to the original prop, over 38″ tall and ships ready to hang.

Use the drop-down to choose from “Standard” Or “Deluxe with Snow and Reins” options

We’ll email you to confirm if you’d like the broken horn (Luke Skywalker tauntaun style) or not.

Developed with extensive, first-hand examination of the original props.

Character Story
“In a wonderful bit of movie magic, the tauntauns of Hoth were brought to life using amazingly fluid stop-motion miniature puppets and full-scale creature creations by one of my heroes, Stuart Freeborn, and his team. We’ve been very fortunate to spend countless hours with several of the original 1:1 tauntaun props and I’m excited to share that experience by way of this incredibly authentic life-sized bust that fans can now bring into their homes.” Tom Spina (Regal Robot founder).

The 1:1 tauntaun creations made for the film trace directly back to Phil Tippett’s original concept sculpture (you can order our replica of that very tauntaun maquette sculpture here). While Tippett worked on the stop-motion puppets, a resin casting of the maquette was sent to the U.K. and used by Stuart Freeborn’s team as the main reference for their work creating life-sized tauntauns. Their work came to life in the form of giant puppets used for close-ups and interaction with the actors on location and in studio.

Many of the fx artists on our team worked very hard to create our replicas. Richard Riley and Ricky Vitus sculpted the head and horns. Samantha Martino created the eyes, teeth and tongue. Additional sculpting, fabrication, mold and cast work was done by Patrick Louie, Nate Hernandez and Marcus Loscalzo. Ricky and Nate also applied the hair and the detailed paint and styling was done by Tom Spina and Melissa Ocampo.
