I didn't remember the Droid Factory having so many pieces.
That's like the one thing I remember the most. There were these tiny white pegs thatcame with it that were lost almost immedietly. And I'm pretty sure that some of the droid pieces went home with my friends.You have to give Kenner a lot of credit for what they did with Star Wars. Sure differnt playsets had been around for a while (like the vinyl one by Mego and others) but I can't recall anything like most of the stuff Kenner did for Star Wars. While I do give Kenner credit for making it happen, I think Hasbro mastered the playset with G.I.Joe.
I also hope we get a second one article like this one. While these were good, I remember have the other two Hoth sets, the Dagobah set and a Ewok village. My brother had the Star Destroyer bridge.
I have all of them, except for, of course, the cardboard Death Star (which I wasn't even aware of, until I bought Sansweet's book in the mid 90's); thankfully, somebody shopped the JC Penny & Sears catalogs, lol. I didn't remember the Droid Factory having so many pieces.
My plastic Death Star is in such bad shape, I was thinking, hypothetically, how much work it'd take to turn it into a vintage-sque Cloud City?: change the elevator to a copper color & roof to white, top floor, minus the canon, becomes open area/Han & Leia's room, bridge become carbon freeze fight area w/ breakaway cardboard window w/ custom gantry add-on, 3rd floor carbon freeze chamber, & bottom area becomes torture chamber and/or docking bay.

Never had any vintage play sets but I love my cardboard Jabba and creature cantina play sets from POTF2. I wish they'd do more. I'd love a new Dagobah play set.
The chipboard Death Star was a European deal. It was never released here. And if I win the lottery, that's another thing on my buy eventually list.
I had the Jawa, Hoth and Droid factory when I was younger. Loved the escape pod from the Jawa playset and being able to make an accurate R2 with a middle leg from the Droid factory. My best friend had the Deathstar playset (the pastic one, not the cardboard one) and I can remember being in awe of that thing. One thing I didn't notice until right now was that the Jawa and Hoth both shared the same plastic base with different cardboard back drops.
Oh I had the Droid Factory when it came out ... loved it, lots of fun. Also had a Death Star or maybe the bridge to Star Destroyer was kinda in a long triangle shape. SW had such awesome play sets and of all sizes and price ranges.
Wow, I don't even remember that cardboard death star set.
I miss these and I feel they can do these again with more updated looking card backs
