Star Wars Galactic Files 2 Sketch Card Artist Spotlight: Jenn DePaola

Next month (8/9), Topps' Star Wars Galactic Files - Series 2 Trading Card Set will be released, and will feature chase cards such as autograph, medallions, and printing plate inserts, as well as sketch cards. One of the participating sketch card artists for this set is Jenn DePaola, she has worked on Star Wars Galaxy 7, Galactic Files 1 & 2, and Mars Attacks for Topps, as well as Viceroy's Space! and Carnival sketch card sets.

"Star Wars to me, reminds me of my childhood. It was a simpler time then, but the message of SW always came through... that people are inherently good at their core. As well as it's never too late to do the right thing. Oh, and toys are awesome... lots and lots of toys.

For me, working on my first SW sketch card set (Galaxy 7) was a bit terrifying but gratifying in the same. I had been doing mostly digital work for the past 4-5 years, and I was a bit rusty since I hadn't sketched anything using traditional mediums for a long while. Also, it was the first sketch card set I had ever been on. Ever since then I've made it a point to sketch and work with traditional mediums more often, and not focus solely on digital so much.

My favorite characters to draw... I would have to say the first is Padme, just for the detail and numerous costumes. But I also like to draw some of the aliens because it brings forth a bit of a challenge in that the anatomy of the facial features is not what I'm used to."

Topps' Star Wars Galactic Files Trading cards will be available at hobby shops on Friday, Aug. 9th.
