A P-90 isn't bad, since it's sort of serpent-ish in design (sits high, smooth lower body assembly) but like I said, I imagine Cobra wouldn't settle for the standard fare. The Viper's gun is what I default to because it is so unique, but not unrealistic.

My issue with the AK is a matter of taste. I don't really want to discuss it, since I and others have done so a dozen times already, as it's one of those cyclical GI Joe topics that never go away.

Much like the M-16, the AK-47 is yesterdays weapon. Heck, even weapons like Rock n Roll's heavy machine gun isn;t even in service anymore, yet he came with it only a few months ago. Even the updated AK-74 is, to me, akin to outfitting a trooper with Dr. Gatling's Amazing Rotary Gun. It's a reliable weapons, I know, sand and mud, I know, I know, I know. But it's old and cheap. Countries and other groups purchase them because they're affordable, not because they're good. M-1 Garande rifles are reliable too, but our scouts and snipers have moved on with the times.

Like I said, it's a question of taste, but if Cobra can afford customized jets, tanks, and submarines... they could afford something along the lines of the Viper's rifle - a signature weapon, that says "Cobra" just like the M4 says "America" and the AK says "Russia". Though, I suppose what matters most is how one views Cobra - a rogue terrorist faction out causing trouble, or a legitimate army ready to overthrow the government by force. I float somewhere in the middle. ; )

What about a P-90?

Dude, that is rockin. I command you to make 12 of them for me!

When it comes to these outdated weapons, are they really outdated? Are the new figures still taking place in the 80's where the weapons are not outdated or are they supposed to be in the now. Alot of 80's guys remade in the 90's did get updated and more modern weapons. I think with Rock & Roll that his machine gun is ok because to me that is still the 80's version of R&R.

Maybe when it comes to the new cartoon we could say those guys are older/aged characters with slightly new looks and maybe they will have more modern weapons to replace the old outdated ones.

It all comes down to the individual and what they want to do and say is going on in there world.

I personally hate the 'Cobra Soldier' and favor the Viper just for that reason. You're going to take on the world's greatest special forces unit with next to nothing? Heck, I even resent seeing them use AK-47s in Cobra.

I don't get it, what's wrong with the AK?

Anyway, cool idea, great custom.

Nice job!

Thanks everyone!

Viper Hunter the recipe is:

-Major Bludd helmet on a bald trooper head sculpted to look like a ski mask (I just glued the helmet on but I could cast it with a peg)

-regular trooper torso with BBi jumpsuit collar

-custom sculpted ammo and gear pouches, regular trooper belt with custom suspender straps and belt buckle, Col. what's-his-butt makarov holster from Indiana Jones, walkie-talkie from BBi CIA guy, and custom sculpt AK bayonet sheath (Thanks Marauder for the bayonet handle! )

-suspenders are half Cobra Officer/half 21st Century CIA guy and walkie wires are metal twist ties painted Aircraft Black attached to some BBi mic

-arms are regular trooper with Xwing pilot Luke hands

-thighs and knees are Dukes with an extra pocket on left leg and feet are regular troopers with rounded down boot toes

-I couldn't mix my paint to match the torso so the Cobra sigil was printed on Testors decal paper and applied with Micro-Set (Thanks Joe Dios!)

-AK-105 is custom cast

Riker I'd like to buy more also b/c it was a pain in the @$$ to make - hopefully Hasbro will make Resolute troopers! HAHA If anyone knows somebody who could cast kits of this figure that would be awesome.

very cool.

i see where you're coming from Tom, but you know that if they did make the cobra soldiers more modern and come with something other than a dragonov sniper riffle collectors would be complaining that their 25th anniversary soldiers look nothing like the ones from the 80s. i can see hasbro doing an updated version of the trooper they have now with more pouches better accesories and a flak jacket or something in the future. perhaps a movie figure cobra soldier?

xhairs - 2008-08-14 @ 1:43 am

very cool my man.
