A New Diamond Select Toys Miscellaneous Q&A Round Is Up For Your Viewing Pleasure

By Jay Cochran on 2010-02-01 in Action Figures
DSTChuck has released a new Diamond Select Toys Q&A over on their Art Asylum website for your viewing pleasure.

In this weeks edition focuses on a little bit of everything questions. Check out all out the entire Q&A below:

Kyle Rada
Hi, I was just wondering about the Iron Man 2 license and if you might consider making a Whiplash, I think his character design could do well as a figure, thanks for your time, peace!

DSTChuck: Yes, no doubt Whiplash would be a very cool Marvel Select figure. The issue for DST is we only do a limited number of Marvel Select figures each year, so do we want 1/3 of our 2010 releases to be IM2? Tough call when the movie has not even been released yet.

Hello! I’ve been perusing the Q&A’s, and I noticed a few recent references to Jubilee! I’d like very much to throw my support in with the “please make a Marvel Select version” camp. She was a stalwart member of the team (What’s this about it being debatable? Pshaw, I say! She hitched a lift in from the Outback years and was most assuredly a fully-fledged member for years, real-world time, before Generation X came along). She was around long before the advent of Jim Lee, and it is true that she’s never been represented in her iconic costume in any plastic form at any point. I think it’s long past time everyone’s favorite little firecracker got her day in the sun! I believe you might be surprised at the fan response you’d get on this one… Ooh, second question, while I’m writing… I’m thrilled to see the upcoming X-Factor Cyclops… is there any chance of completing that X-Factor line-up in the future? Thanks for your time!

DSTChuck: I think its more likely that she gets a MM then a Marvel Select figure. I have to be honest a MS figure is pretty much a no go. For X-factor it was more a chance to do a variant Cyclops then to start building the old X-Force team.

Ben Gaines
Are there plans to make a ultimate quarter scale darth vader?

DSTChuck: Yes he will be in stores hopefully late summer 2010.

Shane Klemenz
I have a question about your Marvel Select line, I was wondering will you be making a Drax The Destroyer in this line, I would like to see a figure of him.

DSTChuck: I don’t think Drax is in the plans - but never say never.

Tom Smith
I just read in your latest Q & A that the Ultimate Scale Henry Jones has been canceled. I can’t say I’m surprised as I never saw him on your shipping updates. I did notice that Cairo Indy is still there in the TBD section. Does this mean there is still a chance he’ll be released? If he is, would he be the last figure in the Indy line? I’ll end this with one last plea for a Crystal Skull Indy. Thanks for sticking by this line as long as you have, guys. I wish it was more profitable for you.

DSTChuck: Sorry to say I think all the Indy products are going to have to be canceled. There are still lots of fans out there but support at retail is just not there.

With all the interest in vampires these days, why doesn’t DST try to get a license for “Dark Shadows”? Rumour has it that a new movie is in the works. With the cult following of the show, it seems to me that maybe it could be big. “Twilight” certainly is doing well! The Original show from the ’60’s , as well as the 1990’s revival and the new movie could all be done. “Dark Shadows” Figures and Minimates would be great!

DSTChuck: A very cool show back in the day for sure but not something we’re looking at right now.

Geoff Lee
I am a huge fan of your 1/15 light-up DeLorean replicas from the BACK TO THE FUTURE franchise. I am really looking forward to the BTTFIII 1950’s version and really dig the ‘dirty’ effect on it. Just wondering if there are any plans to COMPLETE the line of DeLorean’s seen in the films by doing the BTTF III railroad version. I’m hoping we’ll see that one later in 2010 as well. A ‘clean’ version of the BTTF III car with the train wheels and tracks perhaps… Thanks!

DSTChuck: I think the BTTF3 is a very real possibility.

Get out your sticks cause it’s time to beat a dead horse! Hasbro, Mattel, Playmates and plenty of other companies have seem to hit on the idea of, unintentionally, making the entire universe 3.75″. Marvel, DC, GI Joe, Transformers (sometimes), Dr. Who (hopefully), Star Trek, Terminator, Narnia, Star Wars, Hellboy, WWE. Here’s my question: have yall given any thought to getting on the boat? You could do something like a 3 3/4″ Mal Reynolds from Serenity for a SDCC exclusive. Test the waters as it were. I realize that Marvel is off limits. I am just curious to see if yall actually CAN do anything in this scale, and if you will. Thanks!

DSTChuck: DST already has a multi-universe spanning common scale product: Minimates. We’re not saying there is anything wrong with that scale, just that we’re not ready to jump in that pool right now.

Robb Kendall
Where are your statues on here . You show a Deadpool statue or is it an action figure ??? Either way I can’t find either one of the damned things . Don’t show it if we can’t find any info on it .

DSTChuck: We no longer make Marvel statues, the Deadpool you see is in fact an action figure.

Dear Always-Reliable owners & workers of Art Asylum/Diamond Select Toys, Being an ever devoted fan to your guys’ work of wonderful toys (I own all three waves of the first Star Trek line; Minimates of the Marvel license, both Original BSG Minimates sets, Silence of the Lambs set, Platoon set, Ghostbusters, and all three Man With No Name sets, and pre-ordered The Godfather set and Beverley Hills Cop set) so I wanted; as a dedicated fan; could you guys please obtain the license to Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (T.V. show, 1979-1981. Thinking about all this, wouldn’t it be just awesome to have new and far better figures of Buck, Wilma, Ardala, Kane, and even Twiki; Oh please, please hear this request and answer positively in the coming week guys and you will have made a fan very happy.

DSTChuck: I think Buck Rogers is something we’d like to consider at some point. It was a very fun TV show back in the day…

Allen Waiserman
Hi there! Love the BTTF merchandise. Since DST is one of the only BTTF toy makers around right now and you guys like making stuff for BTTF fans, is there anyway we can probably get a Back To The Future The Ride 8 passenger Delorean scale model? (no need to worry about having the DMC logo, it didn’t have it!) I think that would be amazing and i’m sure everyone would love one!

DSTChuck: I don’t think that’s very possible - sorry.

Agent 86
Dear DST, 1. Femme Fatales - Any chance of a Xena: Warrior Princess statue? Xena is definitely my No. 1 “femme fatale” of all time. If not, what about Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Sydney Bristow from “Alias”, Nikita from “Le Femme Nikita”, River and Zoe from “Firefly”, Starbuck, Three, Six and Eight from “Battlestar Galactica” and possibly even Veronica Mars? 2. Can we expect any new licence announcements at NY Toy Fair in February? Any chance of DST producing “Legend of the Seeker” action figures?

DSTChuck: We do have plans to expand the Femme Fatales line and in fact some of the ones you mention have been considered. One of my main sales guys really wants us to do LOS product. We’ll have news for fans at TF.

Hi Guys. I was recently watching old episodes of Buffy and Angel and got to thinking about your old toy line. I have 3 questions. 1. This is the biggie one I’ve wanted to know for years. During your Angel toy line, we got Angel/Faith/Cordelia in wave one, wave 2 was(I believe) a bunch more Cordelias and a few Darlas, wave 3 was Lorne and Wesley and I expected with baited breath to get a bunch of Fred and Gunn for the next wave. We got Fred but instead of Gunn we got more Angel. Why? I was so looking forward to completing the Angel investigations team and it never happened. Then the line continued with like a billion of Angel and Spike. Was there a rights disagreement issue with J. August Richards. Even if he wasn’t as popular to fans as say Lorne or Wesley was, it’s a huge hole in the collection. What happened there? Never even saw prototypes of Gunn. 2. On the flip side, most of Buffy’s cast was represented multiple times over. I know the final “build a judge” line was cancelled(which wasn’t a biggie for me. I wanted them but I already had Drusilla and Oz and Principal Wood was a very minor character overall).. But I did wonder whatever happened to the Riley Finn and Adam figures. Those were awesome. Why weren’t they released? 3. With the recent surge in Buffy/Angel popularity due to the comic continuations, has there been any recent discussion of bringing the line back with smaller assortments? I REALLY REALLY wanted a Gunn figure. I also wouldn’t mind having: Lindsey Macdonald, Lilah Morgan, Adam, Riley Finn, the 3 nerds, The Mayor, Holtz, Sahjahn, Harmony(I could go on. And I want the line to). Thanks guys.

DSTChuck:
1) As we went along with the line, for whatever reason you side with sales kept dropping, as you say Gunn was less popular then Lorne or Wesley. We tried to keep the line going as long as we could so we could as you say finish the team but it get so the lines were too far upside down for us to continue.

2) The Buffy line went much deeper then Angel because the toy line started much earlier. Riley and Adam were prototyped by MAC and DST never had to chance to go in production on them.

3) The comic does seem to be doing well but we’ve not need much of an up tick in demand and more importantly the buyers have not seen it . I think we need a new TV show or movie to have a significant impact in demand.
