The Force will be with viewers who tune into the 118th annual Tournament of Roses Parade this year on Monday, January 1, 2007, at 8:00 a.m. (PST). Kicking off a year of anniversaries, this year’s Rose Parade, themed Our Good Nature, will help celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, the 60th anniversary of the United States Air Force and the 100th anniversary of Oklahoma to create a show sure to please audiences around the world.
The Parade will begin with an opening show, presented by Wells Fargo, featuring a musical performance by acclaimed actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth and a flyover by the United States Air Force before continuing along its 5 ½ mile path through Pasadena. Presiding over this year’s Parade is Grand Marshal, George Lucas. On hand to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars with Mr. Lucas and honor him as the Grand Marshal will be more than 200 Storm Troopers, Ewoks and characters brought to life through a unit titled “Star Wars Spectacular.”
Current Miss America Jennifer Berry, The Flaming Lips, James Garner, Marc Cherry and former Miss Americas Jane Jayroe and Susan Powell will ride down Colorado Boulevard on New Year’s Day in celebration of Oklahoma’s Centennial. Also taking part in the Parade are the 2007 Rose Queen, Mary McCluggage, and her Royal Court, who have been kept busy with activities since their appointment in October.
In addition to the displays of floral pageantry in the 45 spectacular floats, this year’s Parade will feature 22 marching bands and 23 equestrian units from around the world.
The 118th Rose Parade, themed Our Good Nature, will take place on Monday, January 1, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. (PST) featuring majestic floral floats, high-stepping equestrian units and spirited marching bands from throughout the nation. Following the Rose Parade, at 2:00 p.m. (PST), the 93rd Rose Bowl Game will feature an exciting match up between two championship teams, showcasing the best of collegiate football.
