Artists, musicians, and legends have banded together to make the Phoenix Guitar Gala & Carnaval possible. The event, the first of its kind for the Phoenix, will occur in the very building it supports – 201 Washington Ave. Petaluma, CA – begins at 8PM.
The Guitar Gala will feature approximately 20 guitars (donated by the Gibson Foundation), each designed and customized by local and nationally recognized visual artists. Artists committed to the program: George Lucas, Devo, Seth Green of Robot Chicken, Stan Lee of Marvel Comics, Les Claypool of Primus, Jack Haye, Chris Clark (of Motown fame), Michael Garlington, Chris Jehly, Anna Oneglia, Lia May-Bird, Ricky Watts, Jared Powell, Josh Staples of the New Trust, and Jason Jenkins.
The event, scheduled to take place Sat. February 28, will feature a live Internet auction, a cocktail party in celebration of the event, a silent auction featuring artist memorabilia, and appearances by select artists listed above.
THE PETALUMA PHOENIX CENTER
The Petaluma Phoenix Center, known to most simply as the Phoenix Theater, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in support of local youth.
100% of the proceeds from the Guitar Gala will be dedicated to supporting the free-of-charge after-school music, theater, medical, and arts programs for at-risk youth of the North Bay – as well as to help preserve the historic Phoenix Theater, which has served as an important performing arts venue for over 100 years – hosting a diverse group of artists ranging from Harry Houdini to Enrico Caruso to Louis Armstrong, from Carlos Santana, Blue Oyster Cult, Sublime, and Metallica to Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Hilary Duff.
The Phoenix Theater programs benefit nearly 10,000 youth and families annually.
The mission of the Petaluma Phoenix Theater is to foster the emotional, physical and social development of the young people we serve, specifically at risk youth, by enabling them to create and engage in programs for music, the arts, and health and wellness, while preserving and improving the historic Phoenix Theater as a resource for youth and the community at large.

The Phoenix Theater has been kept alive by local Petaluman Tom Gaffey since 1982. His relentless dedication to developing a safe haven for the youth of the community is unparalleled. In summer of 2008, the Phoenix hired Amber Faur as their executive director. She has considerable experience and has instituted many new programs for the Phoenix's spring semester and beyond.
THE WALKING TOUR
On February 7th from 4-8pm, in collaboration with the Downtown Business Association, the organizers of the Gala are planning to have a guitar walk. The walk will hit each location where a guitar is being displayed. For convenience, there is an interactive Google Map of these locations available at phoenixguitargala.com/guitars. These one-of-a-kind 'art guitars' will be displayed throughout Petaluma, in walking tour fashion, for a month before the gala event and available for viewing in our online gallery. Just before the gala, the guitars will be brought to the Phoenix for an open gallery showing,
