Angie was a wonderful person. I had the privilege of meeting her several times and enjoying dinner with her and Peter on a couple occasions even. She enjoyed the fandom and adored her husband. I can't stress enough how terrific she was and I'm going to miss her presence at cons a lot.
That sucks. Heart surgery is supposed to make things better. Not worse.
Angie Mayhew, who continued making appearances with her work forThe Peter Mayhew Foundation, has died following heart surgery
Star Wars memorabilia that was once owned by Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars series will no longer be auctioned.
Health problems kept Mayhew from retrieving the memorabilia from his attic when he moved, so the houses new owners took custody. Mayhew passed away in 2019 and the abandoned memorabilia was recently put up for auction. The late actors wife, Angie Mayhew, got word of the potential sale and tweeted her dismay to the auctioneer and the auction house, which the auctioneer worked the situation out with the owners, and they gave the items back to the nonprofit Peter Mayhew Foundation.
QuoteI was approached by a lovely older couple who were clearing their attic a quarter of a century after moving into their property. The contents of the attic included a bag of Star Wars memorabilia, which I thought might be of some interest to Star Wars fans. Nobody had approached us to discuss it and had they done so I would of course have talked to the vendors. The monetary value of the lot is fairly modest, but knowing how much it means to the foundation, and given that it had been in the attic for over 24 years, the vendors are quite happy to donate it to the foundation to have it permanently within their personal collection, not for profit, so that fans can access it in perpetuity.

This is a bad joke, right? Peter Mayhew died last year.
Saw that this afternoon. Very sad.
Ah, man. This one hurts. He always seemed to be the sweetest guy in the world and loved the fans as much as we loved him. RIP big guy, you've earned.
Peter Mayhew, who is best known for being the original actor inside the Chewbacca suit for the Star Wars films has died at age 74.The actor died Tuesday in his home located in North Texas with his family by his side. His official Twitter account shared the news Thursday. Mayhew had been dealing with mobility issues and had surgery in July in an effort to improve that.
While Mayhew didn't actually speak in the Star Wars movies he helped make the wookie a fan-favorite character with his size, movements gestures. Mayhew was the man in the Chewbacca suit for the original trilogy as well as Revenge of the Sith, and shared the duties with Joonas Suotamo in Force Awakens after his health began to falter. Suotamo continued on as Chewbacca in Last Jed, Solo: A Star Wars Story and the upcoming Rise Of Skywalker film. Mayhew continued to be a consultant to Suotamo for Last Jedi.
So glad to hear that the surgery went well! All my best to him for the swiftest possible recovery!??
