Remembering
artist Ralph McQuarrie (1929 – 2012) on what would have been his 90th birthday. It's tough to say what
Star Wars might have looked like without his designs. Anthony Daniels has said it was his painting of the droids in the desert that helped convince him to take the role of C-3PO.
I remember being facinated by the trading cards featuring his work, before I even realized just what role he played in the creation of the film.

And his work is still having an impact, being brought to life in the forms of toys and collectibles, as well as his concepts being repurposed in
Star Wars Rebels,
The Force Awakens, and beyond.
