In early October, a brother and sister pair of lion cubs were born at the Maryland Zoo, and
they want your help in naming them. Keepers who have hand raised and cared for the two young cubs have chosen four pairings of names:
Luke and Leia (brother/sister from Star Wars)
Bart and Maggie (
Simpson’s siblings)
Kulu and Madoa (Kulu means “huge” and Madoa means “spotted”)
Lear and Circe (King Lear – for the lion is the king of the jungle and Circe turned men into animals with her wand in Greek mythology)
From Monday, December 9th thru Thursday, December 19th, you'll be able to vote once a day, with the winning names announced on
the Zoo’s Facebook page on December 20th.
Update: With 20,504 votes (47%!), the winning names are,
Luke & Leia! You can see the results
here.
