Bespin refugee - May 13, 2014
With the recent announcements of the Lucasfilm Story Group and the establishment of Star Wars: Legends, also comes word of a new series of adult fiction novels from Disney Publishing Worldwide and Del Rey Books, which will now be part of the official Star Wars canon, along with the films and current tv series, The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.
The first novel in this line is Star Wars: A New Dawn, set several years prior to Star Wars: Rebels, and scheduled for release September 2.
The next book scheduled for release is Tarkin, written by James Luceno (Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, Darth Plagueis) and cover art by David Smit, and will hit bookshelves November 4, 2014.
Heir To The Jedi, originally slated to be part of the "Empire and Rebellion" series, will be a "first-person Luke Skywalker story', written by Kevin Hearne (The Iron Druid Chronicles), scheduled for release in January 2015.
Finally, Lords of the Sith, by Paul S. Kemp (Crosscurrent,The Old Republic: Deceived, and Riptide), features Palpatine, Vader, and an unnamed character from The Clone Wars animated series, and will be released in March.

Also, this means that Boba Fett is still died a screaming pansy. That's right...DEAD DEAD DEAD.

Well that's one good thing. Now if they can manage to keep him dead in the new films, that'll be another plus in my book.

I was never too hung up on what they choose do do with all those past Star Wars stories, whether they "count" or not. IMO, if they've been made and you enjoy them, they will always "count" on some level.

So what if one storyline of SW isn't in continuity with another stoyline of SW? The longer your franchise is around and the more and more mediums they use to tell stories (movies, books, comics, cartoons), it will be nearly impossible to keep EVERYTHING in continuity with each other. Look at comic superheroes for instance.....

no mention of the Holiday Special or Ewok movies...for shame.

That could effect the content of the new movies, correct?

From what I read in another article, there has always been two "timelines" for Star Wars. The first being whatever Lucas did and the second being everything else. But if Lucas liked something and put it in his movies then it became "officially" part of SW canon continuity. From now on the group will say what is and isn't officially part of the SW continuity.
