Joe Johnston, the VFX Art Director on Star Wars Episodes IV, V and VI, has posted
a review on his Facebook page, for an early draft of
Star Wars Storyboards - The Original Trilogy, of which, he wrote the introduction. Here is part of his review:
"
...There are beautiful storyboards I had never seen before by Alex Tavoularis, Ivor Beddoes, and Roy Carnon, and extended sequences from all the ILM artists, Nilo Rodis-Jamero, George Jenson, Dave Carson, Paul Huston and others. There are even a few very rare boards by Ralph McQuarrie and some comic gems by VFX supervisor Ken Ralston.
Rinzler has compiled the sequences in a very interesting way, combining individual boards from different artists and different versions of each sequence to best illustrate the action and continuity. He includes several preliminary thumbnail sequences that show the process of planning and laying out the action and interweaves them with the fully rendered final versions of the major action scenes..."
The book is scheduled to be released May 2014.
