ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the
Star Wars: The Black Series Holiday Edition figures from
2020, as I am still gathering the ones from
2022, and will post a review of those in the upcoming weeks. That first wave of
Holiday Edition figures caught everyone by surprise 2 years ago, and are still controversial to some (
they probably just hate holidays?). Each figure was exclusive to a different store, which made it really easy and fun for collectors outside the US to acquire them...
NOT. So how was that first wave? Let's check them out!
Ho, ho, ho!
First, the classic
Stormtrooper, in peppermint green with red highlights, which was exclusive to
Amazon. He comes with a
long staff with a blade, and a
porg as white as snow. I half expected him to smell like
peppermint when I opened the box. This would have been a fun feature. Obviously, it's the same old
Black Series Stormtrooper with different colors, so articulations are not the best, but he has a
ugly sweater print on his chest armor, which makes up for that a little bit!
The
Snowtrooper, exclusive to
Walmart, is a very fun one too. He has a red and white scarf around his helmet, and red and white high socks, so he is very ready for winter. His outfit makes him look like an
elf. The
Holiday Snowtrooper comes with a
short bladed staff, a detachable backpack and a porg with a scarf (
aaw!). His head can move pretty good, even with the scarf.
The
Clone Trooper, in all its bright red glory, was exclusive to
GameStop. He comes with a weapon that could be a sword or a
hockey stick, painted red and white to look like a
candy cane, and a little
porg with a red scarf. He has a
death star christmas sweater pattern on his chest armor, and just like the green stormtrooper, you half expect this one to smell like candy or cinnamon, but nope.
Missed opportunity right there!
The
Sith Trooper, exclusive to
Best Buy, is the only one that came with a sort of firearm. He comes with a
blaster cannon (
kinda painted like a Nerf gun), and a
festive version of Babu Frik (
yay!). He also has a plastic red scarf around his neck, which can be moved (but not much, it's still plastic). The normal
Sith Troopers had a cool design, and that green and red one definitely looks great too.
Last but not least, the
Target exclusive
Range Trooper, which looks just like Santa, with his bright red costume and white fur. He comes with a
bladed baton and a
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer-colored D-0 droid (
so cute!). There's snow on his boots, for that nice realistic Santa effect (
because Santa is real, of course). A bit of a weird choice for Santa, as it could have gone to a slightly more important character, but the costume does look the most 'Santa-like' of all.
