2019 Star Wars Celebration Exclusive 6" Black Series Episode 1 Duel Of Fates Obi-Wan Kenobi And Darth Maul Figures Review And Images

The 2019 Star Wars Celebration officially kicks off in Chicago starting later today and with that we give you an in-hand look at Hasbro's exclusive Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 20th Anniversary 6" Black Series figures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul.

Both figures come packaged on special holographic type cardbacks that re-create the original Episode 1 toy packaging which is what makes these two figures exclusive to the convention with limited quantities being made available afterwards on Hasbro Pulse. Each figure costs $24.99 each.

Obi-Wan Kenobi which is a new figure will be re-released later this year at regular retail in normal Black Series packaging and Darth Maul will also see a re-release at regular retail as part of the Black Series Archives line.

The only thing different about the Darth Maul figure from the previously released Black Series version, is this one sports new headsculpts incorporating Hasbro's new face-scan technology. Darth Maul like the original figure includes his double-bladed lightsaber, binoculars, hooded headsculpt with cloak and non-hooded headsculpt without the cloak.

Obi-Wan which is based on Ewan McGregor as he appeared in Episode 1 as a Padawan to Qui-Gon features his lightsaber with removable blade and an alternate pair of hands. I believe this figure also incorporates the face-scan technology for the headsculpt.

As for my personal thoughts on these, both are nice but if you have the original Darth Maul figure Hasbro did I am not sure if this one warrants a second purchase unless you can get the con-exclusive version with the cool and unique packaging for display purposes.

This Obi-Wan is a fast improvement of the Episode 3 Obi-Wan they did (that one is getting an update as well for the archive line) but the face likeness I would not say is 100% dead-on to a young McGregor at least when looking at the figure head-on. It looks better from the sides. The figures incorporate the basic type of Black Series articulation so nothing new there. Obi-Wan is also very clean look. His tunic is a much brighter white than the Episode 3 version or that of Qui-Gon. On thing I wish they had included was a robe which was also missing from their Qui-Gon figure. They gave us a robe with Mace Windu so honestly if they had just re-packaged that with this figure I would have been good.

Overall both figures are good and especially if you missed out on the previous Maul I would say both of these are worth checking out. If you end up getting these Convention versions then I would recommend keeping them on the cardbacks. They look really good that way and honestly it pained me to open these so I could review them.

A big thanks to Hasbro for sending me these figures free of charge so I could review them for you and be sure to check out all the images of them below in our GALLERY. Also be sure to check out later today and throughout the weekend for complete coverage of the 2019 Star Wars: Celebration convention.

I missed out on the first wave of these two, but I don't plan on missing out on this one.
