Review: Star Wars Target Exclusive "Attack on Hoth" Set

By Jay Cochran on 2010-11-04 in Reviews

The new Target exclusive “Attack on Hoth” is a nice set to own if you are trying to re-create the battle on Hoth from “Empire Strikes Back.” The set includes AT-ST, E-Web Cannon, 2 Snowtrooper figures and a new AT-ST driver figure.

The AT-ST is the new and improved version that was released last year as a Wal-Mart exclusive. The Wal-Mart version was covered in mud and such for Endor, while this version is clean and more suited for battle on the frozen plains of Hoth. Like the Wal-Mart version, this AT-ST is much larger than the original Kenner version and has more articulation. It holds two figures in the cockpit, and the legs are very pose-able. There is a circular hatch that opens at the top, and eye slits that can be opened or closed.

For weapons, you have two movie-accurate cannons on the sides of the head and two different chin cannons you can use, a large and less movie accurate-looking cannon that fires two actual missiles and a second, smaller one that is more movie accurate looking. If you recently purchased the Deluxe AT-AT from Hasbro, then this new AT-ST will make a great addition to go along with it.
The E-Web cannon is the same one that has been released by Hasbro before, although there is no power generator for the gun with this one, just the cannon by itself.

For figures, you get two of the more recently articulated Snowtroopers with removable helmets revealing Jango clone heads and a new articulated AT-ST driver that has a removable helmet and goggles. This is a nice addition to your figure collection and a nice update to the AT-ST driver. The previous ones released by Hasbro were somewhat lacking in articulation and details. This one will look a lot better with your new Vintage Collection General Veers figures. The only downside to this figure is that the goggles don’t fit on top of the helmet and it’s hard for him to wear the goggles and helmet at the same time.

Hasbro has really gone to significant effort this year to give you nice updates to figures and vehicles based off the Hoth Battle, such as the previously mentioned AT-AT and a new Snowspeeder. This set is a great addition as well. There is a second Target exclusive set just released that features cannons from the Hoth battle for the rebels which you may want to pick up as well.
