The Mandalorian and Grogu Suffers Historic Drop at the Box Office

By Shawn Kirk on 2026-06-01 in Movie & TV
The Mandalorian and Grogu suffered a historic 69.4% drop at the domestic box office in its second weekend, earning roughly $25 million, bringing its 10-day domestic total to $137.368 million and its global gross to $246.568 million. This represents the steepest second-week percentage decline in Star Wars franchise history. The decline from its $81.6 million debut broke the previous franchise record set by The Last Jedi (67.5% drop).

Due to the severe drop, the film was pushed out of the top spot entirely, falling to third place on the weekend charts, behind a pair of low-budget, indie horror films. A24's Backrooms took the #1 spot with an $81.456 million debut, while Obsession finished in second place with $26.4 million in its third weekend.

With a reported production budget of $165 million before marketing, industry experts estimate the film will need to cross the $500 million mark globally to break even.
