Lucasfilm has reached an agreement with Simon Kinberg to create a trilogy of Star Wars films, as reported by
Deadline. Kinberg is set to write and produce the series alongside Kathleen Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm.
The trilogy will consist of episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga, which originated with George Lucas's inaugural film in 1977. According to sources, Kinberg is set to advance the Star Wars narrative, indicating that this will initiate a new saga while complementing ongoing Star Wars projects involving James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover.
Kinberg has a history of collaboration with Lucasfilm, having co-created the Emmy-nominated animated series Star Wars Rebels alongside Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck. This series aired for four seasons from 2014 to 2018. Additionally, he served as a consultant for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, a film directed by J.J. Abrams that successfully revitalized the franchise in 2015.
