According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the secret Star Wars project by Damon Lindelof will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
The project has been in the works for months as Lindelof is writing the new Star Wars script with Justin Britt-Gibson. This came about with Britt-Gibson after the writer attended a writers' room after this year’s Star Wars Celebration. The room held a two-week session in July and at the table were Patrick Somerville, Rayna McClendon, and Andy Greenwald, among a couple of other writers.
Sources from within say the project is intended as a stand-alone but could lead to more movies based on its success. The new plan is to keep Star Wars movies as stand-alone, instead of new trilogies. The storyline for the project would take place after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but it wouldn't continue the Skywalker saga. It could feature some of the characters from the Star Wars trilogy made in the 2010s.
In recent years, Disney has switched from movies to streaming TV and feels that in a few years, they can get back into doing movies as Lindelof's movie wouldn't drop until December 2025. Disney learned that they were pushing out Star Wars movies too fast by releasing a movie a year from 2015-2019, and they lost money with Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
