Lucasfilm announces the return to the world of George Lucas' 1988 film, Willow The Disney+ series, scheduled to begin production next year, will feature original star, Warwick Davis, and director Ron Howard, who will serve as executive producer. Bob Dolman, writer of the original film, will serve as consulting producer.

"Jon M. Chu (In The Heights, Crazy Rich Asians) is set to direct the pilot, and will serve as executive producer along with showrunners Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) and Wendy Mericle (Arrow). Jonathan Kasdan wrote the pilot."

The series, which is Lucasfilm’s first venture into non-Star Wars storytelling since 2015, takes place years after the events of the original Willow film. It introduces all-new characters to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters, and welcomes back its namesake hero, Willow Ufgood, performed once again by the unmatchable Warwick Davis.

Years ago, I had heard a pitch on the Screen Junkies youtube channel for a show or movie where the thirty-year-old warrior queen Elora Danan (raised by Mad Martigan and Sorsha) and her chief sorcerer, Nelwyn ambassador, and oldest friend Willow go an a quest to defeat a new evil. I hope this show resembles that pitch, but I suspect it won't.
