Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Tops The Weekend Box-Office?

40 years after its original release, and 23 years since the Special Edition re-release, The Empire Strikes Back again, to take the weekend box-office. With only 1,500 theaters currently open, as well as, little to no new films opening, special showings of the film brought in $611K (3-day) /$644K (five-day gross).

Other recent re-releases have had similar results. Last weekend, Ghostbusters‘ brought in $550K (3 day)/ $656K (5 day), and during the weekend of June 19 - 21, Jurassic Park had a 3 day take of $517,6K .
