Despite a summer release and a predicted $130 -150 million debut,
Solo: A Star Wars Story is off to a weak start. With $14.1 million in Thursday previews, and a projected $35 million for Friday, the film falls short of 2016's
Rogue One's $29 million iThursday) and $71 million (Friday).
Solo's three and four day holiday weekend predictions of $80-90 million and $105-110 million, also falls short of
Rogue One's three-day debut of $155 million; although,
Solo did reach "the best preview gross for a Memorial Day release. The news from overseas is not any better, only taking in $11.4 million in 43 markets, and reports of roughly $3-10 million in China. 2007's
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($139.8 million) currently holds the record for "the top Memorial Day launch of all time in North America, not adjusted for inflation."
