The immersive effects of 4DX (vibrations, wind, fog, and strobe, as well as differing lightsaber reverb effects) allow moviegoers in Japan to experience
Star Wars: The Last Jedi from the perspective of the light or dark side.
The Force Awakens brought in just shy of $100 million in Japan, and
The Last Jedi has taken in more than $55 million since its Dec. 15th release. "
Japan was an early adopter of 4DX, the immersive environmental effects technology from South Korea's CJ Group, and has become one of its most important markets.Ticket prices for the 4DX versions are $25 (¥2,800) for 2D and $28.85 (¥3,200) for 3D, a premium of more than $10 over regular screenings. The light and dark versions are Japan-only and there are currently no plans to show them elsewhere."
