Following the news that
Ron Howard would be replacing Lord and Miller as the director of the Han Solo stand-alone film. Howard discussed the topic durimg an appearance at the Cannes Lions International Festival

... a science fiction movie, but a really fun one like Flash Gordon with the effects of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001." A few years later, Howard and his wife stood in line for two hours to see the film on the first day, standing in line for another 90 minutes, to see it again; saying, they were "
so moved by the movie. It was all the things you dream you’re going to experience in the movies.”
