The combination of a new trailer and the launch of online ticket sales this week led to more broken records for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The release of the official trailer (above) on Oct. 19th, during ESPN's Monday Night Football, was seen by a TV audience of over 16 million. Once the video was released online, it was viewed more than 112 million times in 24 hours; but, it was just a million views shy of Youtube's view count record for the year, a ranking still held by April's trailer for The Force Awakens. The latest trailer does top the Digital Audience Ratings (DAR) though, which measures other major digital platforms including YouTube; after one day, the Force Awakens trailer nearly doubled the cross-platform digital engagement generated by films like “Suicide Squad” and “Batman v Superman,” as well as tripling the numbers for the first TFA teaser trailer from last November.
This week also saw the launch of online ticket sales for the film, leading to a number of websites crashing; but, that didn't prevent a number of international records for 24 hour advance ticket sales, including 200,000 tickets sold in the UK. First day ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks the record previously held by The Hunger Games.
