While he was 'never really a fan', JJ Abrams hopes he has been able to honor the legacy of Gene Roddenberry's
Star Trek. He also hopes to do the same with
Star Wars, a franchise he says he would have paid to be a part of. Abrams does see a benefit in working on a project he's not connected to, as a fan, "...working on something that is not necessarily your favourite thing can actually help, because it forces you to engage with it in a way an outsider can appreciate.''
