Star Wars Custom Of The Week: Yellow Spacer By The Art Of Luke Sprywalker

Yellow Spacer By The Art Of Luke Sprywalker

Spacer #2 AKA the Yellow Spacer as seen in the cantina in A New Hope. I thought I would share my process on this one starting with collecting reference photos. Followed by the figure parts and my work in progress. He is quite different from Bossk but does share the same flight suit and a few other parts. He does not wear a belt or have the pilot harness around his waist and legs. So lets see what it would take to create this figure in 1:18 scale.

I started with the Bossk figure and a 3D printed helmet from my shop, Outer Rim Traders . Obviously I need new lower arms and legs so I used a set of gloves from the fodder bin and legs from the Endor Rebel. Legs need dremeling down to reduce the bulky look at the knees. Next is the mid section without the belt. Looking through my fodder it looked like the new Obi-Wan belly could work so I cut the Bossk figure just above the hips and made the new belly fit those hips and glued in place. Good start and like the look so I stopped here for now. Future updates coming to complete this figure for the cantina!

...

Yellow Spacer, AKA Spacer #2 is done! Picking up where I left off with my last post. I have now sculpted the collar that holds the helmet followed by painting it gloss black. Then airbrushed the figure with a light yellow I mixed up to match the flight suit. Continually studying the reference photos it is time to place the hoses and figure out the final details for this guy. The hose that runs from his stomach to his back is covered in yellow cloth so again I grabbed the Tamiyia tape and covered the hose followed by painting it yellow. The flight vest was a bit short so I painted Tamiyia tape white and wrapped it around the Obi-Wan belly to make it look a bit longer. Next up I used thin wire to create the cables that hook to the wench on his chest area. These are used to keep the helmet on incase the suit is inflated to protect the wearer. More painted tape was used as the strap that is seen across his back when sitting at the table. The final steps were painting the screen accurate helmet from Outer Rim Traders and adding a base guitar string as the tube that runs from the elbow on the helmet to the holes in the flight vest. WOW! What a project! Tons of minor details that make him very different from the Bossk figure. One more cantina patron checked off the list! Thanks for having a look and following the build!
