The End Of The Year Weekly Star Wars Q&A Session With Hasbro's Star Wars Brand Team

Jay Cochran - December 15, 2006

Every Friday by 5 PM ET, Jedi Insider will be able to submit 3 questions that we would like posed to the Hasbro's Star Wars brand team. All questions submitted will be reviewed and answers to a select few will be posted on https://www.Hasbro.com/StarWars the following Friday afternoon. Though only a sampling of all questions received will be posted to Hasbro's site each week, they will make their best effort to respond directly to each editor with answers to all submitted questions.

NOTE: The next Q&A won't be untill January 12, 2007.

JI: With so many new Star Wars video games coming out these days, and with kids being so into video games these days, has there ever been thought about doing a line of figures based on them again?

Hasbro: Yes.

JI: Do you think we will ever see a return to where the toy market will support the release of large vehicles and playsets like back in the 80's?

Hasbro: Older kids (10-12 year-olds) who were once active in action figures have left the category entirely in favor of videogames and other pursuits. So we won't see the return of these kids to the category - they have aged
out. Combine that with more TV shows and movies, and more toy lines, vying for attention and it means there's a smaller share of the pie for the existing boys brands. I think it's challenging for many boys brands to make playsets work, including Star Wars. We do not preclude playsets from Star Wars, but we would lean in the favor of large vehicles. There are some large vehicles in the mix, but it's too early to commit to what those might be other than what info we have already given previously.

JI:Now that 2007 is almost upon us, can you give us any hints as to what characters we might see done for the VOTC line next year?

Hasbro: That will be revealed soon - at Toy Fair or around then. Right now it is too early to reveal.
