I've always hated invisible figures. Its like I want the figure not his clear counterpart. And really you shouldn't be able to see it at all. It reminds of when I was a little kid and buying Fantastic 4 figures and the store had everybody except the regular Sue Storm and instead it was invisi-Sue. Even as a little kid I was like why would you want to pay for a unpainted see through figure, give this thing some paint and we will talk. I personally think they are a waste of money, if they are going to be produced they should be a variant or in a double pack with the non-see through version.

depends for me on the figure really ... I like more than just all the same clear plastic though ... I tend to like the colored clear figures more so than those ... I'm still waiting for them to do a proper invisible woman figure , with the felt marker type out line around her and some color to her as well like back in the original comics ...

I must admit that I too am a sucker for translucent plastic! I think in the right context they serve their purpose. Convincingly? Not always. But probably the best example IMO would be Hot Toys Snap-Kit Predator which was translucent, but had a few patches of painted details outlined by blue 'static' (like when the field gets wet and fizzles). While not perfect, I still think it looks pretty cool in a diorama.

I don't think I've ever thought of the reasons behind clear or translucent figures. I just know that I'm a sucker for them! Like the holo-figures of certain star wars figures. They're bascially useless but, dangit, I love 'em!

No, see, the Star Wars holo-figures make sense, and serve a purpose. You are supposed to be able to see the details of the character, but with a transparent blue tint. I have no problems with holo-figures.

Oooh, I gettcha. I thought you were just talking about translucent versions in general. Well, I agree that half-visable or "phasing" figures are useless. If they're gona do it, then just make 'em all clear! I mean, I suppose it's articstic, but I've never been a fan of figures that only look good standing there. Now, as for "cloaked" figures...well....I like them, but only for the reasons I stated above: I just like clear or translucent figures. However, are they a good representation of "cloaked"? I'd say, no. I agree that you can usually see the joints, or something else that kinda ruins it. However, I think it might take some crazy tooling to really make 'em blend in. I don't think they can make the joints clear as well without lowering the plastic's toughness.

Anyhow, I like them, but I agree that they never really represet the idea very well.

i've always thought cloaked figures were stupid. as you said if its cloaked you shouldn't be able to see it all. at the very least not with so many details.
