Product Backstory
Deep and layered are the schemes of the Dark Lord Sidious, Sith Master and architect of the fall of the Republic. Perceiving a strength in young Anakin Skywalker as yet unseen among even the greatest of the Jedi, the Sith Lord engineers elements into his plans, rich in contingencies, that might either turn the troubled Jedi to his own purpose, or else destroy him altogether. One such element is the dark Force warrior Asajj Ventress.

Gaunt and bitter, Ventress is a wiry assassin trained in the Jedi arts, but her heart is a cold, blackened stone, scorched by resentment against the Jedi who abandoned her and hardened by the cruelties of her brutal home world of Rattatal. Ventress displays lethal excellence and no remorse, impressing Sidious with her efficiency. Joining the Dark Lord, Ventress is provided with a ship, new weapons and a purpose - to destroy Anakin Skywalker- a task to which she takes with glee.

In the midst of the Clone Wars, Ventress seeks to carry out her mission. Anakin's skill and mastery of the Force prove difficult to overcome for the Dark Side's newest enforcer. In the ongoing conflict, Asajj and Anakin cross light sabers many times in battle, their ongoing conflict raging on throughout the wars, becoming a personal trial and rivalry for them both.

If you guys haven't seen it, go over to Hisstank.com. I have no doubt that this guy will handle the series correctly.

AWESOMENESS

I don't really see what it has to do with the writers ability to tell a gi joe story (in a way the collectors on here think it should be told @smilepunch@) As most of that was "run through the woods, shoot at stuff, stab some stuff(awesome more violence!!! i doubt we'll be seeing troopers parachuting away from blown up fangs!) and make a stupid joke".... you don't see much characterization or plot in a one minute action preview. It does look promising and I like the animation for the characters i've seen pics of so far... duke, however, looks kinda wimpy to me. you can't really say anything about the writing of the story until you actually see the whole thing.

On a side note... so when this comes out it will be on the internet in five minute episodes that will equal one full hour. will it be like an episode once a week like red vs blue?

oh and you guys who are saying he doesn't know anything about gi joe.... he said that he didn't going into the project but that he did extensive research, which i'm guessing is reading comics and cartoon scripts/watching the cartoons. i'm sure hasbro supplied him with the characters and their general characteristics. how pissed would we all be if snake eyes could talk?

I'm perfectly amenable to changes to the story and involvements between groups, but some standardization is needed so I hope he was provided with a basic crash course in what to do and what not to.

Heck, just handing him a stack of the file cards would go a LONG way...

It makes sense for him to know LITTLE, but to know NOTHING wories me. Some things, even if the story is different should remain: general comand chaing, SE Scarlett romance, basic character personalities.

All animated shows like this begin with a series bible.....basically a binder with all the character designs ( or descriptions), bios/basic conflicts and core back stories, as well as the very basic premise.

So, Ellis would know at the outset that Snake-eyes is a ninja/commando-type, who is in conflict with Storm Shadow etc.

He writes the material from that basic starting point.

Great to hear the guy writing the stories doesn't have a clue about anything GIJoe.

Its easy to understand.

They wanted to do something different with GIJOE this time around so they found someone with no knowledge of the property ( but noted writing skills) for a.........."different" take on things.

Getting someone like that means you'll get a re-imagining instead of another tired re-hash.

Makes sense to me.

I would say he was confused because he even admited he didn't know what any of them looked like or who any of them were.

BrotherShane - 2008-08-06 @ 1:29 pm
From TNI's Joe Con coverage: They tried to keep the color schemes from the classic characters for each of the characters. They showed Duke, Gung-Ho (chest is covered), Lady Jaye with a hat, Scatlett, Tunnel Rat, Storm Shadow who looks like a combination of V1 and V2.

Was he confused on Lady Jaye? I could of swore they discussed Lady Jaye being a tomboy in Resolute, and I thought we saw the character drawing for her at Joe Con. Maybe he meant Cover Girl.
