Star Wars & ESPN SportsCenter Team Up

Outsiders - January 23, 2005
A new round of "This Is SportsCenter" commercials featuring Star Wars characters, SportsCenter anchors and sports icons premiered Friday on all ESPN Networks as well as starwars.com.

The award-winning mocumentary-style campaign features popular Star Wars characters, including Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, Darth Vader and a stormtrooper, as well as tennis star Andy Roddick and heavyweight boxing icon Lennox Lewis, and SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott.

Created by Wieden Kennedy New York, the spot entitled "Space Anchors" reveals that with the addition of SportsCenter's new HD technology, ESPN had to hire a more sophisticated staff, including Chewbacca, C-3P0, R2-D2 and other Star Wars favorites to help with the new technology. Chewbacca gets irate at the break room coffee machine, Darth Vader intimidates heavyweight boxing icon Lennox Lewis, C-3PO annoys tennis star Andy Roddick and R2-D2 tries his best as a co-news anchor.

Stay tuned to starwars.com for further news of upcoming ESPN commercials featuring your favorite Star Wars characters.
